Franz Strohmeier

Grapes, love & time

Franz Strohmeier has been producing wine in Steiermark since 1996. A lot of time, patience and dedication were indispensable to extract that uniqueness that each grape carries. For long time misunderstood for his natural approach in the vineyard and in the cellar, now he is a well known and appreciated wine producer in the natural wine scene. His sparklings are so fun and special, the ‘Trauben Liebe & Zeit’ wines are unique and complex, with zero sulfites added. Each one of them has exceptional flavours, long finish and deep aromas.

Franz’s wines can be kept open for weeks and new
flavours will develop throughout time.

New approach in a traditional world

In one of the most known wine regions in Austria, where mainly conventional wine is produced, Franz Strohmeier has shaken up Steiermark’s traditions. Here, wine is mostly classic and often really pricey. For many many years Franz has been producing natural wines without adding sulphur, without filtration or intervention of any kind and he has been challenging the locals’ palate through his
experiments. Now is one of the best in the Austrian natural wine scene, his wine travels the world and is appreciate it, not only by the best sommeliers and chefs around the globe, but also by many natural wines drinkers.

Nature doesn’t rush

It takes time to achieve results and Franz knows this very well, himself admits that he managed to achieve great results after 15 years of hard work. He received awards already at the early stages of his carrier, however he wasn’t satisfied, he was still looking for
perfection
, he needed to refine his production, he didn’t feel like he deserved those awards yet.

Turning the vineyard into organic and then biodynamic took years and perseverance. In 2005 he
made his first sparkling wines without added sulphites and since then there was not going back. By making natural wines he was fulfilling his dream and desire in expressing the terroir and the grape
character
in the bottle. Every grape is unique, every year is unique, the soil is unique and all these have to be shown in the wine without hiding them behind chemicals and interventions.
